What they're up to now!

Lisa Davis, 1990, was awarded the MacArthur Fellowship from the National Education Writer's Association in 1993. In 1994, feature stories she wrote won first place in contests held by the Associated Press and the Arizona Press Club, and she also won two Benjamin Fine Awards for Excellence in Education Writing from the National Association of Secondary School Principals. This year, she was the Arizona Press Club's first place winner for diversity.

Zenaida Gonzalez, 1994, graduated with a double major in journalism and international relations. She is currently a staff reporter for the Marin Independent Journal.

Richard Hernandez, 1994, works as a San Jose Mercury-News staff photographer and has won two California awards for photography.

Eric Newton is managing editor at the new Freedom Forum Newseum in Arlington, Virginia. Eric was formerly managing editor of the Oakland Tribune under Bob and Nancy Maynard. In 1993, he joined the Freedom Forum as editor in residence of the Pacific Coast Center. Newton is also president of the Oakland-based First Amendment Project and author of "The Open Newspaper."

Marsha Woodbury, Ph.D., has gone on to gather her Master's in journalism from the University of Illinois, along with a Ph.D. in computer-aided instruction. A member of Kappa Tau Alpha, a journalism honor society, Woodbury won a regional Emmy with seven other journalism students for "Drinking 101: Introduction to Alcohol," in 1990. Woodbury was named Pew Scholar at the National Teaching Assistant Conference in 1993, and Bagley Scholar by the School of Education in 1992. Currently, she is director-at-large for Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility. Stefan Wray, 1994, is now an intern in KPFA radio's news department, doing wire service rewrites and radio production. He has been accepted to the graduate program at the University of Texas at Austin for the fall 1995 semester, for the joint master's program in Latin American studies and communications.
