SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards announced

Region 11 SPJ Mark of Excellence Awards for student journalists were announced today during the conference. Arizona State University was awarded the sweepstakes award, which was determined by awarding five points for first place awards, three points for second place and one point for third. The San Francisco State University winners are:

• Editorial writing: Robert Anglen, first place.
• Spot news reporting: Robert Anglen and Ken Alltucker, third place; Golden Gater May 24 edition reporters: Martin G. Reynolds, Carl D. Holcombe, Ty Tagami, Cynthia Walker, John Wisyanski, Audrey Wong, Eva Martinez, Raquel Kuhn, Pia Christensen and Ken Alltucker, second place.
• Best all-around non-daily newspaper: Golden Gater, third place.
• Best all-round student magazine: Prism, second place.
• Spot news photography: Carlos Gonzalez, second place, and Cindy Russell, first place.
• Feature photography: Michelle Eades, third and second places.
• Best sports photography: David Bridges, second place.
