There is no better way to cure the post-midterm blues than relaxing a day or two in a rustic cabin nestled among large coastal rocks across the bay from Stinson Beach. And you just can't beat the $30 price tag.
Spend the day hiking Mount Tamalpais, combing the beach, or enjoying a leisurely cruise along Highway 1. Or instead, pray for rain and curl up with a good book, or play a friendly game of Scrabble, sipping hot chocolate, and listening to the waves crash onto the rocks below.
Steep Ravine Environment Campsites are located one mile south of Stinson Beach on Highway 1. Cabins are handicap accessible and come furnished with wood-burning stoves, a breakfast nook, plywood sleeping platforms and a spectacular viewÑyou supply the rest. While there is no electricity, running water and pit toilets are just a few steps away.
For reservations call MISTIX at (800) 444-PARK. You can book a cabin up to two months in advance, and you will probably need to because they go quick. Your best bet is to call on the first of the month, or hope for cancellations. Remember to bring firewood, a lantern and plenty of hot chocolate!
