Track & Field:
The SF State men's track and field team won another meet Saturday at Cox Stadium, beating Humboldt State 91-63. Gator junior Lino Campanile won both the hammer (176 feet, 8 inches) and discus (146-9) to help in the SF State victory. Campanile is now ranked nationally in the hammer throw.
Altogether SF State won nine events.
"I'm getting more excited about the team for every event," men's coach Matt Lydum said. "Humboldt had five kids ranked number one in the (Northern California Athletic) Conference and our kids beat them all."
In the women's competition, Humboldt won the meet with 81 points, ahead of SF State's 71 and Sonoma State's 33. The Gators won four events in the meet: Delphine King (100-meters); Aida Dalit (triple jump); Rachel Cohen (400-meters hurdles) and Teresa Shartel (long jump).
Baseball:
SF State's baseball team won two out of three games against CSU Hayward this weekend, improving its Northern California Athletic Conference record to 3-6.
Saturday, the Gators split a doubleheader at Hayward, winning the first game, 5-2, after Gator junior pitcher Jeff Nereson scattered nine hits and junior outfielder Al Carpenter homered and drove in three runs for the Gators. The Pioneers won the second game, 7-1, led by pitcher Rob Alvarez.
Friday, SF State rallied for five runs in the seventh inning and two in the eighth to beat Hayward 7-5 at Maloney Field.
The Gators overall record is now 8-12.
Softball:
SF State's softball team lost a non-conference doubleheader against CSU Bakersfield Saturday at Stephenson Field. The Gators lost 7-1 in the first game, after Bakersfiled scored three first inning runs.
In the second game Bakersfield held off a late surge by the Gators, who had five runs in the final inning, to win 7-5.
In a Northern California Athletic Conference game Friday, the Gators lost a doubleheader against UC-Davis ñ the first game was a 14-0 blowout, and the second game ended 3-2.
Against undefeated conference leader Sonoma State Wednesday, SF State took another doubleheader loss. Sonoma won 3-0 in the first game and 10-3 in the second after the Cossacks' winning pitcher hit two doubles.
SF State is now 4-8 in the NCAC, 8-12 overall.
