Letter to the Editor

Golden Gater OnlineDear Editor,

I am writing this letter on behalf of the Eta Omicron chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, to clarify events that have transpired over the past two weeks.

I have been accused of making racial remarks to members of La Raza Student Organization on Friday, March 15. A racial comment was allegedly made about Mexicans by my friend, Ottoniel Diaz, who is full-blooded Mexican and Ottoniel was assaulted by members of La Raza.

Pi Kappa Phi, as an organization, does not support ANY political group or slate, nor does our fraternity support, practice or tolerate racism! We are working together, with the La Raza Student Organization, to resolve the problems which led to the confrontation on March 15.

Since the aforementioned incident, Pi Kappa Phi has been wrongly accused by different campus groups (and the Golden Gater) for the assault of Students for Students candidate Tony Luna on Sunday, March 17. Later it was inferred that we had even gone as far as stealing a banner and even a car from individuals in the La Raza Student Organization.

The flames of these false rumors are being fanned by libelous flyers and slanderous speeches supplied by Dorothy Hamilton and The Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action By Any Means Necessary. They are blowing a private matter between a couple members of two campus organizations, into a witch hunt against our fraternity.

As for us being racist, I offer the following statistics: 59 percent of our chapter is recognized as "people of color," 78 percent are classified as minorities and finally, I would like to point out that our chapter was founded by an African American. After viewing the racial breakdown of our chapter, I will claim that our fraternity is the MOST diverse organization on campus.

Any responses or questions can be directed to me via email at jkoz@sfsu.edu.

Josh Koslov, President, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, Eta Omicron Chapter 564-7276
