The SF State baseball squad found the confines of UC Davis Community Stadium anything but friendly Saturday afternoon, as the Aggies avenged a Friday defeat with a doubleheader sweep of the Gators in Northern California Athletic Conference action.
Friday, Justin Gordon and company shut down UC Davis at Maloney Field for a 7-3 victory, but Saturday it was the Aggies utilizing the home-field advantage to the tune of 10-4 and 2-0.
The Aggies improved to 14-7 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC, while the Gators fell to 8-8 and 3-4 in conference.
"So far we haven't played as a team," said Gator shortstop Jorge Macias. "Once we find that chemistry, there's no telling how good we could be."
Friday provided a glimpse of the chemistry that carried SF State to its first NCAC crown in six years last season. Gordon scattered three runs on 10 hits, running his record to 2-2 on the year. The Gator bats were led by Jamie Carr and Cass Fegan with two hits apiece. Fegan doubled, tripled and tallied three RBI on the day.
"This was a good win for us today," Gator coach Mike Simpson said afterward. "The first game of a series is always the most important."
In Saturday's opener, Curtis Fields drove in three runs and the Gators committed six errors to pace the 10-4 Aggie win. In Game 2, the Aggies' Jeff Ellis homered and Anthony Dellamano tossed a four-hit shutout, striking out six, to stymie the Gators.
In Game 1, Fegan picked up two more hits for the Gators, who out-hit Davis 11-8, but couldn't recover from in the field.
