Letter to the editor

Dear Editor:

I am writing in regard to Brad Weinberger's letter (Golden Gater, May 11). Weinberger doesn't know the reality of the Constitution of the Occupied States of America. The Bill of Rights, which he called a "wonderful piece of paper," did not give Native Americans religious freedom for 178 years or the vote for 190 years.

The U.S. -- Weinberger declares there is no better nation -- has a policy of extermination of Indian people.

The government of the Occupied States is continuing an open Holocaust, now 500 years old.

This country killed all but 510 of my people for its Constitution. Our history, our culture, our religion, our past and our future were destroyed -- for the sake of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. As a full-blood Chumash I have a difficult time looking at the papers created to justify the occupation, murder and extermination of my people.

I look at the flag that represents this country and I see death, rape and brutality against millions of Indians. The Constitution (ripped off from the Iroquoi Confederacy) excluded Indian people.

Who is responsible for change, and who created the problems? It is easy to use ethnicity as a shield for bigotry and hatred and to blame people like Buckner-Nkrumah. It is harder to admit one's role and to help create change.

I welcome Weinberger to discuss this with me any time.

Please, Weinberger don't send hate mail, as during the mural incident.

Thank you.

P.S. I am looking forward to finding solutions.
