Letter to the editor

May 11, 1995

Dear Editor,

Contrary to Buckner-Nkrumah's political views, the majority of anti-zionism -- especially on this campus -- is anti-semitic. The proof is his column. I submit two excerpts. Read his words, replacing the word "Zionist" with "Jew(s)."

The Oppressive Coalition trashes America, but claims they fight for students. There is still no better nation than the United States, due in part to the Bill of Rights -- this wonderful paper allows people to speak out and practice any form of religion and/or politics.

Yet according to Buckner-Nkrumah, only a select few are allowed these rights. I asked Buckner-Nkrumah at a candidate debate, if he would be inclusive and supportive of all campus groups and students.

He replied, "As AS president, I want to see that organizations like this (Zionist Action Committee) can no longer exists on campus." This wasn't a slip of the tongue. In his column he states, " ...if that scares anyone, then don't become or continue to be a Zionist..."

Who are you, Troy Buckner-Nkrumah, to dictate to people what they can believe in?! You should read the U.S. Constitution.

To quote our third president, Thomas Jefferson, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."
