Letter to the editor

Dear Editor:

I am outraged by your blatantly sensationalist article regarding the arrest of Jason Archie. "Police take AS representative from campus in handcuffs" (Gater, Feb. 23) contained grievously misleading information about the Associated Students representative.

Not only did the Golden Gater print information without concern to Jason Archie's right to privacy, but also without adequately investigating the circumstances surrounding his arrest. When writing their story, Audrey Wong and Robert Gwathney neglected to mention that Archie has pertinaciously fought against fee hikes, has been outspokenly opposed to Proposition 187, has assisted in bringing Rosa Parks to our campus, and has consistently worked to make administration more responsive to all students' needs. Archie is an asset to SF State and without his voice, all of us will suffer.

Moreover, the article further amplified the overblown nature of the entire incident. Even if Archie had a "verbal confrontation" with an instructor, that does not warrant his arrest and removal from campus.
