For the first time ever, a woman was among the finalists in an open division pool tournament held in the Rack-N-Cue at the Cesar Chavez Student Center.
Marketing major Keely Hong, reputedly the best woman pool player at SF State, placed second after facing almost 50 opponents, men and women, in the eight ball tournament that began March 9.
Hong was favored to take first place in the women's division tournament held at the same time, but she was eliminated in the semifinal round.
Last month, Hong represented SF State at a collegiate eight-ball tournament in San Diego in which she placed second in the women's division.
John Hittle placed first in the open division tournament at the Rack-N-Cue, and Tina Giang was first in the women's division.
