Football's big bad surprise

President Corrigan made a decision and disrupted the lives of 65 football players last week.

Without warning -- two weeks before the end of the recruiting season -- football players, recruits, and coaches suddenly don't have a sport. And there's no time to change plans for next year.

Unlike other universities, SF State football isn't a multi-million dollar business or a golden doorway to the pros. Our team plays simply for the love of the game, nothing more.

What happens to the player who was getting looks from "another level?" He won't get a chance to show his stuff.

Or the recruited freshman who planned to attend SF State specifically for football?

Or the player from San Diego who took time off from school to work so that he could play ball at SF State?

Why were their lives suddenly fumbled so late in the game?

Find another university young men, there's no longer a place for you here.

These players were not given fair warning.

Initially Corrigan said there was nothing that could be done to salvage SF State football, but after hearing the team's plea, he waffled, asking for legitimate reasons for another season.

If he doesn't grant a final season, these players will have no place to go.

If the Gators can't be saved for the future, at least let this year's players find a new team. Two weeks clearly isn't enough time.

It's your decision, President Corrigan. Make the right one. Let them play one more season.
