Letter to the editor

Dear Editor:

Once again a member of the Progressive Coalition has come forward to waste newspaper space with more noxious ramblings about Zionism. In this case, Franz Julio's false and unsubstantiated accusations shows his knowledge of Zionism is limited to its spelling (Blind nationalism leads to false supremacy, Golden Gater, March 30).

Zionism doesn't "blindly" sanction the actions of any government, including Israel's government -- all it endorses is Israel's right to exist. Julio's answer is to deny Israel's right to be? He certainly wants us to believe that Zionism is oppressive and promotes genocide. Of course, he never offers any corroborative evidence because there isn't any.

There is nothing in Zionist ideals that would promote or even tolerate the oppression of others. To say otherwise is either stupid or malicious; it is unconscionable.

I'm glad to read that Julio wants to aid the oppressed. I should then expect his full support. My years at SF State have been tarnished by the oppressive, hate-mongering words and deeds of the Progressive Coalition. The group has learned its history: scapegoating worked for the Nazis, too.
