Trees cut down to make room for overpass

by Mark Friedman

Trees located on the hill across from lot 20 were recently removed to make space for a new pedestrian overpass from the parking lot, SF State officials said.

Steve Noetzel, manager of facilities for plant operations said removing the trees was necessary for the new redesign of campus roadways.

He said the campus will be like an "open pedestrian mall," after the work is completed.

Other plans include barricading a corner of Tapia Drive, making the road inaccessible to cars so it can improve pedestrian safety.

Freshman Matt Duffy didn't agree with the improvements.

"It makes the campus look worse," Duffy said.
