Softball

Facing top ranked teams at the 1995 All Sport Softball Classic in Bakersfield last weekend, the SF State women's softball team recorded two victories.

The Gators began the tournament on Friday by losing to Dominguez Hills 10-1 and being shut out by Portland, 6-0.

Behind an impressive performance by pitcher Kim Cordoni, the Gators came back on Saturday and defeated Chico State, 6-5.

Cordoni went the distance and gave up seven hits.

Monica Rubina led the Gators' offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

In their remaining two games on Saturday, the Gators were shut out by CSU Bakersfield, 4-0, and were defeated by Humboldt State, 5-1.

On Sunday, Cordoni led the Gators to their second and final victory of the tournament when SF State defeated CSU Hayward, 6-3.

Cordoni threw her second complete game of the tournament and gave up four hits.

Offensively for the Gators, Marica Smith's 3-for-4 outing led SF State in their come-from-behind win.

The Gators ended the tournament with a loss to CSU Stanislaus, 8-4.

SF State hosts CSU Stanislaus Saturday at noon.

Track and Field

Noue Mulitalo broke SF State records in the hammer toss (146.09 feet) and discus throw (137.08 feet) at the Meet of Champions on Saturday.

Sharon Murtagh turned in her season-best performance for the women's track and field team and tossed the javelin 137.07 feet.

For the men's track and field team, Tony Jones recorded his season best in the 200-meter dash (22.01 seconds).

Aaron Mathes placed second in the pole vault flight (15.7 feet) and Jeremy Allen recorded his season best in the 100-meter hurdles (14.66 seconds).

The Gators next track and field meet will be Saturday at the Cal/Nevada State Meet.
