Mr. Lucky's Lounge

Christopher Kennedy

Everyone knows that those lovable hepcats, the Rolling Stones, will be making their ritualistic return to the Oakland Coliseum November 14 (and undoubtedly many more dates TBA), but what nobody knows -- and what your buddy Mr. Lucky is here to tell you -- is that the World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band will play a surprise gig at the Warfield the following week, probably around the 21st. The band, known to play small venues on occasion, had originally slated the show at their old stomping grounds, the Fillmore, but had been impressed by the Warfield's intimacy and beauty after having thrown themselves a party there the last time they blew through town...Speaking of Mick Jagger, his longtime friend and once rumored bed buddy David Bowie performed at the Warfield Tuesday night (he plays Monday and Tuesday, as well), and among those in the audience was former Dead Kennedys singer, and ex-San Francisco mayoral candidate Jello Biafra...The Residents -- those lovable, anonymous eyeball-and-tophat-wearing lugs -- have added a pair of Halloween shows at the Fillmore. Tickets go on sale Sunday.

FLICKS

We love the neo-noir work of director David Fincher, so "The Game" (starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn) is one big Hollywood production that Mr. Lucky recommends you go see. (See review) Also opening Friday is "Different For Girls," a romance involving a transsexual (Steve Mackintosh) and her former childhood friend (Rupert Graves). At the Lumiere..."Conspirators of Pleasure," which opened yesterday at the randy Red Vic, is surrealist filmmaker Jan Svankmajer's lusty look at six ordinary-by-day individuals, who by night live out their sexual fantasies in anomalous and unwonted ways. Yeah, baby, yeah!...Those fine folks across the Bay at the Pyramid Brewery and Alehouse have put trendy microbrew beer, "B" movies, and cult classics together in the unique and irreverent concept of outdoor cinema. The festival runs every Saturday night through September, and this week's film is Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove." Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at dusk. There are a few sofas available for all you crazy, romantic kids, but moviegoers are encouraged to bring their own seating and to come in costume. 901 Gilman Street at Ninth in West Berkeley. Even if you don't like the movies, between all the Range Rover driving yuppies and youthful punk rock crowd from across the street, this is a great place to people watch.

DRINK OF THE WEEK

Yes, all you swingers, martinis and those cute pink cosmopolitans will be back, and as tres chic as ever this season, but while the sun is still shining, why not escape all that pre-El Nino tension with the last of the refreshing summer cocktails. We like to call this one the Tire Swing. You will need: 3 ounces amaretto, 3 oz. orange juice (California, of course), 1 oz. 151 Bacardi rum, and a scoop of crushed ice. Any of Martin Denny's "Exotica" records would be highly recommended with this drink. Throw it all in a blender (not the album), and set to blur. Pour it in a brandy snifter, or mason jar, if you prefer, and garnish with a cherry. It has already been a tough semester, and you deserve a break. So kick off those shoes, find a nice spot outside (tire swing, perhaps?) and chill. This, guys and dolls, is why God created blenders and scenery.
