Sitting at home watching TV, you change the channels searching for something to watch, "The Richard Bey Show," "Wheel of Fortune," an ad for the new Robin Williams flick ... well, SF State students have the chance to appear in all three of these programs.
An open casting call for the new Disney movie "Flubber," a remake of "The Absent Minded Professor," starring local funny man Robin Williams -- will be held at the student center on Friday, Oct. 4 and Monday Oct. 7, from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
"We are looking for 150 people with a Midwest, small-town look," according to Serene Hope of Beau Bonneau Casting. Students should bring a picture of themselves to the Cesar Chavez Student Center and must be able to commit to two 12-hour days, next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 7 & 8) in Burlingame.
All people with the "right look" will be paid $5 an hour for the first eight hours and $7.50 for any time after that, on both days.
Another call will be made for a shoot at Stanford on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4. "We will be looking for around 500 students for this scene," Hope said.
In addition, there will be another call for a shoot that will take place on Treasure Island on Oct. 12 and 13. For this, Hope said that they are also looking for students who look like basketball players and cheerleaders. Students picked for these roles can be paid as much as $275 per day.
All students attending the casting call will be given free meals during the day, but must commit to attending the shoots for two, 12-hour days. "We need to keep the continuity for both days," according to Hope.
For those students who would prefer a game show to a movie, the "Wheel of Fortune" game show will be accepting applications to audition for their "college week" shows, on Oct. 19.
Part and full-time students may apply by sending a postcard with their name and phone number to: Wheel of Fortune Contestant Search, P.O. Box 429004, San Francisco, CA 94142-9004. Postcards must be received by Oct. 7.
The shows will be taped at The Palace of Fine Arts during the week of Nov. 18. and tickets are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Wheel of Fortune Audience Tickets, P.O. Box 429015, San Francisco, CA 94142-9015.
According to statistics provided by KGO-TV, "Wheel of Fortune" is seen by 24 million nightly viewers in the United States and 100 million weekly viewers worldwide.
Finally, for those who don't want to appear on television or in a movie, but want to see how a talk show works -- host Richard Bey will make a live appearance to host a live show in McKenna Theatre on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
While the show will not be broadcast, it will feature SF State students as guests and be in regular talk show format. Tickets are available for $10 at the student center information desk.
