Dear Editor,
I just finished reading Chris Freud's editorial "Al Davis wrecks TV." Chris, first I think you should follow your own advice and "get a life." Second, I think you should pull your head out of your ass, because your opinions are not based on any facts.
You claim that getting rid of the Raiders or sending them to Billings, Mont. would decrease the amount of Raiders games televised. Due to black outs of the local market, the Raiders have been on TV LESS in the past two years, than when they were in Los Angeles. The Raiders always have had a strong and loyal fan base in the Bay Area, and because of that the local stations and network programmers would broadcast their games here. Al Davis has nothing do with which game a station or network plays. If he did, why would he allow the games to be blacked out? If the Raiders were to move to another market, the local black out would not be in affect here in the Bay Area and chances are that more Raiders games would be televised, than have been in the last two seasons. If anything, you should be glad that the Raiders are back because you are seeing them less now than before. You also claim since the Raiders are back, you can't see three games on Sunday, yet you mentioned five different games (Seattle/Tampa, 49ers/Carolina, Philadelphia/Atlanta, Denver/Kansas City, and Dallas/Buffalo). My TV Guide had three games listed. Again, I don't know how you can think the team is changing network programming. I have been able to watch three games each Sunday so far. The fact that the games might now be the best played that day has nothing to do with the Raiders. Try complaining to FOX, NBC, and TNT.
In the end, I feel sorry for you. If a sport can cause you to have "a bummer of a weekend," and if all you do on a Sunday is "aimlessly channel surf" then it might be time to discover all the amazing elements that make San Francisco a great city to live in.
Sincerely,
Gregg Cevallos
