The following is a sampling of incidents recorded by the University Police Department between Sept. 20 and Sept. 30.

Attempted theft: On Friday, Sept. 20, food vendors located on the west side of the Cesar Chavez Student Center detained a man after he attempted to enter a walk-in freezer. Officers discovered that the man, who was not a student, was on parole, and possibly the suspect in a similar incident which occurred on June 17. The vendor refused to press charges. The man was escorted off campus and told to not return.

Volatile dispute: Two men were reported arguing in front of the Guest Center on Sunday, Sept. 22. During the altercation, one man possibly showed a gun to the other man. UPD officers responded, and a back-up unit from San Francisco Police Department was requested. The suspects were gone when police arrived, and an area search found nothing.

Dormitory burglaries: A student reported the theft of some cash and discovered his answering machine and VCR in his room at Mary Ward Hall. The incident occurred sometime between Sept. 20 and Sept. 29. The student said when he returned to his room on Sept. 29, his room was open and his computer was left on.

The suspect, who had black hair in a ponytail, also had a small black leather purse in his hand. Officers located a suspect at the Muni rail platform on 19th Avenue at Winston Drive. The man was positively identified by the women.

Marijuana reports: There were two reports of the odor of marijuana emanating from rooms in Mary Park Hall, but officers were unable to locate the source of the smell.

Stuck on the tracks: A UPD officer spotted a disabled Marin Airporter shuttle bus stuck on the Muni tracks at the intersection of 19th and Holloway, on Sept. 28. The officer notified Muni, set up flares, and stood by the area until a tow truck arrived to assist the stalled bus.

Intoxicating encounters: A report was made from Mary Ward Hall on Sept. 21 requesting assistance dealing with a disruptive, intoxicated female resident. The officers responding advised the student to stay in her room, and residence hall staff conducted passing checks overnight.
