SF State's volleyball team lost the game that could have put the Gators on top of the Northern California Athletic Conference on Saturday. UC-Davis, undefeated so far in the conference and ranked 17th in the western region, proved to be too strong and won the game 3-0. Dana Steigerwald had five straight points to give the Gators a 12-11 lead in the second game, but despite serving opportunities to win the game, the Aggies came back to win it 18-16.
Friday, Chico State's string of 18 consecutive wins over SF State's volleyball team ended in the Main Gym, as the Gators beat the Wildcats 3-1. After a close start to the game, 1-1 and tied 4-4 in the third game, the Gators said enough is enough and sailed away to coach Kathy Argo's 300th career victory.
"It feels good," Argo said. "Normally, I wouldn't make too much of a deal about a win, but tonight was Chico."
Juniors Kris Larsen and Pam Rigor led SF State with 16 and 15 kills respectively, while junior Dana Steigerwald recorded a match-high 22 digs.
SF State is now second in the conference with a 4-2 record.
