Going down a goal early in the game against CSU Hayward on Saturday, SF State women's soccer team ran into a wall of defenders in an attempt to overcome a team with a 0-6 losing record. Ten minutes into the second half, freshman Gator Teresa Fox broke through to score. Fox has now scored 13 points, which makes her one of the top scorers in the Northern California Athletic Conference.
Seven minutes from the end, junior midfielder Alexia Exarchos tapped in the game-winning goal for the Gators following an assist from senior Jolie Sorge.
"We played well," said coach Jack Hyde. "I'm very pleased with the team's progress. Everyone is pulling for each other."
Wednesday SF State, on the road, lost 3-0 to Sonoma State. In a tight game, the Cossacks scored an early goal, and was then awarded a controversial penalty just before halftime. Sonoma State settled the game in the second half with another goal.
The Gators are now 2-4-1 in the conference.
