No on H means safer streets

Yes on H will cost too much

When Frank Jordan, Roberta Achtenberg and Willie Brown ran their perspective campaigns, police protection became a hot button item on the trail -- more specifically, allowing the police to spend more time investigating crimes and protecting citizens.

Proposition H will destroy this mission by abolishing the department of Parking and Traffic and transferring those duties to the Hall of Justice.

Such a transfer will cost San Francisco more than $25 million , according to Controller Ed Harrington. This is money the city cannot afford to spend, in light of federal and state budgets. The transfer is a clear shift of priorities, taking police away from community oriented programs.

According to Police Chief Anthony Ribera, crime has dropped almost 30 percent since the creation of the Department of Parking and Traffic. The city can not afford to handcuff police personnel to the task of writing tickets and citing vehicles. Neighborhood activists are crying out for a stronger police presence at a time when streets are no longer safe from crime.

Voting no on prop H will send a clear message to City Hall that we need our police to curb crime, not monitor curbs!
