Though the visiting team scored first, the Gators had the last laugh in Saturday's match-up.
The 2-1 win was especially sweet for SF State.
Cal State Hayward scored early in the first half and started to get cocky when their crowd began to hoot and jeer as the Gators failed to score through the first half and into the second.
However, Arturo Culmenero came to the rescue for SF State with a goal off the assist from Mallar Goodrich about 15 minutes into the second half. Goodrich put away the win 10 minutes later with a shot resulting from the cross pass by Culmenero.
The win put the Gators in the hunt for post-season play with a 6-6 NCAC record, fourth in the conference, with two games left in the regular season. The Gators played College of Notre Dame Wednesday, but results were not available at presstime.
SF State will play the final regular season game at UC Davis on Saturday. Davis currently holds the third spot in the conference with a one game lead over the Gators.
