Re: "Prop O is a dyslexic's nightmare."
This editorial summarizes what is wrong with the mood on our campuses today: The politics of cynicism and the politics of blame. At a time when the Republican Party is gutting social and environmental legislation, can the editorial staff of the Golden Gater find nothing better to write about than what they see as the "manipulative symbolism" of the Board of Supervisors? Apparently the Golden Gater editorial staff feel that it is more constructive to stand on the sidelines and divisively take verbal swipes at "whites in Noe Valley," than it is to vote. At a time when our cities are decaying and the income gap between rich and poor is growing, the last thing that we need is self-righteous cynicism and finger-pointing. Maybe renaming Army Street as Cesar Chavez Street is only symbolic but, believe me, if we renamed the student union Army Student Union, more than one person would be outraged, and justifiably so. If you don't like the way things are going in this country, don't snivel, get off your buttocks -- regardless of what color they happen to be -- and get to the ballot box. It's not just a right, it's a civic duty.
