Analytic Journalism


Analytic Journalism (Journalism 421) begins in the Spring 1996 semester and will be offered Tuesday nights between 7:00 and 9:45. Enrollment requires a grade of C+ or better in Reporting (Journalism 300), or consent of instructor. Professor Tom Johnson will teach theory and practice in identifying, retrieving and analyzing digital data for journalism. Study telecommunications, text analysis, spreadsheets, databases and GIS programs. Instruction will be in the form of lecture/demonstration, hands-on exercises in a computer laboratory, and take-home assignments. Analytic Journalism satisfies the advanced writing requirement for a degree in journalism.
