Started as director of Center for Integration and Improvement of Journalism in July 2002. First worked with the Center as a student in the early '90's. Dr. Azocar coordinated NewsWatch's 1994 Teaching Diversity Guide. In 2002, she completed her doctorate in Communication Studies at U. of Michigan, Ann Arbor, joining a miniscule number of Native American Ph.Ds in mass communication. Her research explores news coverage of people of color and its impact on public perception.
