Admissions
San Francisco State University will accept applications for Fall 2013 Term admissions beginning Oct. 1 through Nov. 30, 2012. The Journalism Department is only accepting upper division students into the major, which means students must have completed 60-credit units by the time they begin Fall 2013 semester.
First-time Freshmen who are interested in journalism are encouraged to engage in the department through its various extra and co-curricular activities. Promotion of these activities can be found on the department Web site.
SF State Sophomores who expect to have completed 60 credit units by Fall 2013 and satisfy the minimum criteria are eligible for the major. You are not required to have completed the pre-major courses, but completing those classes by the end of your sophomore year will allow you to move through the major in a more timely fashion. Students who take pre-major courses must complete them with a minimum C+ average.
If you are a transfer student, you must fill out the CSU Mentor application to the university and indicate your interest in the journalism major.
Criteria for admissions:
- Minimum 2.5 overall GPA
- Minimum C+ average in pre-major courses, if taken
